Before you submit

How to draw your floor plan.

You do not need professional drafting software. A neat hand-drawn sketch is perfect—as long as every measurement and fixed feature is clearly labeled.

Draw the room from above

Sketch the shape of the room and mark each wall. Start in one corner and work clockwise so no section is missed. Include adjoining walls when they affect an island, peninsula or walkway.

Measure every wall and opening

Record dimensions in inches. Show the full wall length, then the distance from the corner to each door or window, the opening width, and the remaining distance to the next corner.

Add vertical measurements

Provide the finished-floor-to-ceiling height. For windows, include floor to bottom of trim, window height and trim-to-trim width. Mark soffits, beams, sloped ceilings and anything that limits cabinet height.

Locate utilities and appliances

Mark the centerline of the sink, plumbing, range or cooktop, gas line, hood vent and other fixed connections. Include appliance widths and, when available, manufacturer and model numbers.

Measure to finished surfaces

Measure from wall to wall—not from the existing cabinets. Clearly identify whether dimensions include door and window trim.

Include room photographs

Photograph every wall, doorway and nearby room connection. If you have several files, combine the sketch and photos into one PDF before uploading.

Do not estimate critical sizes

Double-check totals and make sure the smaller wall sections add up. Final field measurements must be verified before cabinets are ordered.
